R448 Kilcullen Road Upgrade

Complete upgrade to 1200m of heavily trafficked residential road in Naas, Co. Kildare, which had to remain fully operational for the duration. JCL were appointed to carry out the works by the developer of Pipers Hill, who were funding the upgrade, as part of their planning requirements

JCL fulfilled the role of Main Contractor and PSCS on this roadworks projects which transformed the car focused infrastructure into one which could be equally safely used by vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists

Key Features

  • Full road realignment and substantial road construction with the existing layout changed from 1m wide footpath on one side of a three lane road to 2mm wide footpath, 2m wide cycle lane on each side with 2 lane road
  • 10,000m of kerbing with huge variety – extruded roads kerbs, precast pencil kerns and timber kerbs
  • 5,000m2 concrete footpaths
  • Major services installation including new drainage network with 1200m3 attenuation, 1200m of 300mm diameter watermain, 10,000m of communications, power, traffic signals and public lighting ducting
  • Traffic Signals works with junction upgrades and new pedestrian crossing, all tying in with existing network
  • Public lighting upgrade along the length of the scheme
  • 8000m2 road surfacing and 4000m2 cycle track surfacing
  • Substantial temporary traffic management system designed, implemented and managed with AADT of 9,000
