JCL fulfilled the role of Main Contractor and PSCS on this major urban bridge project which was Phase 1 in Kilkenny County Councils plans to alleviate traffic in the city centre and also to open up an abandoned indstrial area of the centre at the town for redevelopment
Key Features
- 125m long, 5 span, reinforced concrete bridge with piled bases and circular RC piers
- Each base had 14 No bored and cast in situ, 15m long, 900m diameter concrete piles
- In river piles, piers and and bases required the installation of two coffer dams and also had to be completed within the Fisheries Season
- Substantial in situ concrete works to the abutments either side of the river, all of which was clad in local Kikenny Limestone
- Major precast element in forming new deck - precast crosshead beams at each set of piers and 14 No 25m long beams on each span
- Major architectural steel and stainless steel walkways on either side of the bridge including viewing platform with approximately 100T steel
- All services incorporated within the bridge and tied into existing network of services
- Major roadworks including substantial traffic management to facilitate the new bridge and the realignment of footpaths etc to tie in
