JCL were 50% stakeholders in the Joint Venture which delivered this key piece of railway infrastructure in a challenging and varied environment
Key Features
- Bulk earthworks were required in significant quantities across the entire 11km of the scheme. 150,000m3 disposal with 200,000m3 imported to form the new track bed
- Major structures with 5 new build overbridges, 1 new build underbridge, 8 upgrades to existing bridges – primarily with piled foundations and precast concrete construction
- New structural steel footbridges at Carrigtwohill and Midelton StationsMajor culvert structure 1km long 2.5 x 2.4m - river diversion immediately adjajcent to the new railway line working within the confines of Inland Fisheries Irelands guidelines (works only permitted May – September)
- 12km of drainage network with pipes ranging to 750mm and significant attenuation including open ponds and buried tanks
- New station at Midelton involved works to the original protected station building, with major refurbishment and extension to provide a modern fit for purpose building and platforms with full accessibility (including new lifts) and 500 car parking spaces
- Carrigtwohill Station included substantial building works, platform construction and car park construction
- Major works were carried wout within the Great Island Channel Special Area of Conservation
- Major pedestrian and traffic management desigend and implemented on site
- Ongoing liasion with Cork County Council, Irish Parks & Wildlife, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Utility Providers and local landowners and residents
