JCL completed this project with our MEICA JV partner AECOM, in 2015. It was a breakthrough project for JCL, establishing our capabilities in the design and build field, and also being the first project that we delivered to Irish Water

JCL fulfilled the role of Main Contractor and PSCS (and engaged PUNCH Consultiing as Civil Designers) on this new design and Build Water Treatment Plant, constructed on the site of the existing facility, which had to remain fully operational for the duration, and had to be decomissioned and demolished once the new facility was operational.
Key Features
- JCL contributed substantially to a detailed design process both during the tender period and post award - detailed focus on having the design as complete as possible prior to commencement on site
- The new treatment plant was situated on the site of old reservoirs which had to be demolished and substantial temporary works were necessary for the excavation
- 6.1ML/day capacity treatment plant was constructed which servces a population equivalent of 18,000
- Main works in the treatment plant area included substantial reinforced concrete works with an 1100m3 capacity Clearwater Tank, Backwash Sump, Washwater Tanks, Filtration and Bunded areas for dosing
- Structural steel building with blockwork walls was constructed over the main tanks and treatment process area
- Substantial site works were also required with concrete yards, all service installation, inlet and outlet pipelines, administration building and an access bridge
- Upgrade at 10 off site existing pump wells at re and at Goldmine Abstraction Facility - including construction of an instream fish pass
- The existing plant was kept fully operational during the construction and commissioning of the new plant and then was fully decomissioned and demolished while the new plant remained fully operational
