JCL fulfilled the role of Main Contractor and PSCS on this bridge construction which removed a dangerous structure and road over the Cork –Dublin Railway line, and replaced with a completely new realigned road.
Key Features
- 35m long single span bridge over the live railway
- Substantial piling works, using an alternative design proposed by JCL and accepted by the Client adjacent to the live railway on either side, requiring substantial track and vibration monitoring
- 30,000m3 earthworks to create new reinforced embankments to bridge and approach roads
- Installation of reinforced concrete deck and precast concrete parapets over the railway line, with substantial temporary works
- Major service installation with drainage network and public lighting and communications ducting along full length of scheme
- Major precast elements installed at night during possession of the railway line requiring two 700T cranes in tandem
- Demolition of original bridge at night during possession of railway line
- Procurement and management of specialist subcontractors for Installation of crash barriers, waterproofing, public lighting, surfacing and linemarking
