JCL completed this hard landscaped public realm project in 2015 – the DART line runs underneath the promenade, which is of extremely high quality with architectural finishes and furniture

Key Features

- The project covered an area of 2,000m2 with the main promenade itself approximately 1,000m2
- New precast concrete retaining units and Cl 804 fill were installed after site clearance and demolition works to create the new space
- The key material in the raised promenade is exposed aggregate – concrete with black granite pebbles and sea shells was procured by JCL following substantial liaison with suppliers and subsequently installed – the aggregate was exposed by grinding
- 400m2 of Portuguese granite was also installed as part of the project
- The exposed aggregate finish was also achieved on the feature entrance steps, which were 10 m long
- 450m2 of resin bound aggregate was installed at the promenade tie with the existing Peoples Park
- Raised granite clad planters were constructed and bespoke granite and iroko seating was installed
- A glass balustrade was installed on the seafront side of the new park
- Canopies, public lighting and soft landscaping was also installed
- The adjacent path and road were upgraded
- Received a commendation at the 2015 Irish Landscape Institute Awards in the Public Realm section
